Pink for Pink

One of my best friends was diagnosed with Breast Cancer about 2 months ago.  Today at 2pm she is scheduled to have a double mastectomy removing most of the cancerous tissue.  She will still have to endure chemo treatments and all the side effects that that presents after she has healed up from surgery.  She is truly one of the sweetest people I know….  She is healthy, vibrant, positive and 34 years young.  I decided to color my hair pink for Pink as I have called her for years.  I did it for her.  I did it for Breast Cancer awareness.  And now I’m writing this to remind you all that cancer is REAL.  Cancer does not discriminate.  Cancer is vicious and affects so many lives.

From my experience and from what I have heard from others, doctors will tell you that you are too young for a mammogram.  Insist on one!  PLEASE give yourself a breast self-exam once a month.  If Pink hadn’t found a lump in her breast she would have been dead by summer.

I have been devastated by all of this and I know what I’m going through is about 1/1000th of what she is going through.  Be thankful for everything you have.  Be positive when you feel like nothing is going your way.   Never take anything for granted.  Do what makes you happy….

  1. Nymphette, this is a beautiful tribute to your friend. I wish her the easiest and fastest recovery possible. People live through cancer everyday these days – she can too! My heart goes out to her and I will keep her in my thoughts.

  2. I am so sorry about your friend.
I know just how much cancer can affect someone.
I’ve been affected by cancer as well, my dad died of cancer almost 4 years ago now. :(
My heart goes out to you and I hope your friend will be okay.
She, and you, will be in my prayers. *hugs*
Stay strong, I know its hard but you have to have faith.
If you need someone to talk to, I’m willing to be an ear. You can dm me on twitter if you need to, my twitter name is Triciafitz88.

    xoxo <3

  3. My thoughts and prayers are with Pink, and all those affected by cancer. My grandfather was sick for a long time, Kaiser kept sending him home with stopgap solutions telling us it was various curable ailments. He kept getting sick, my mom kept bringing him back insisting something was seriously wrong. By the time they found the liver cancer, they only gave him 6 months to live. We took him home to the Philippines and were blessed with his presence for almost 2 more years.

Doctors don’t know everything. If your gut tells you something is wrong and one doctor says it’s not, get a second, third, fourth opinion. I don’t think my grandfather could have been cured, but he was in so much pain for so long, we could have at least made him more comfortable had we known earlier.

  4. You’re such a beautiful person on the inside as well as on the outside. I wish all the best to your friend, stay strong for her!

  5. Your tribute to your friend is touching and really sweet! Believe me, I can relate to what you are feeling, I feel this way about my mom, and this is her third time. If you ever want to talk about it, you can hit me up on twitter! I wish her the very best and I hope she beats this the first time around. I was reading that breast cancer is diagnosed 1 in every 8 women, that was absolutely staggering to me, what a huge number. Many hugs to the both of you.
    Your hair is GORGEOUS.

  6. *hug* Your friend is in my prayers. Your hair looks lovely.

  7. All the best to your friend.

This look is lovely! Yours is by far my favorite blog. You’re stunning and original and such a breath of fresh air in a crowded beauty/fashion blogosphere of me-toos.

    Keep it up!

    • This comment means a lot. Thank you.

  8. 34! So young, I wish her all the best. Hopefully her family will be tested or has been for a hereditary cancer syndrome. I was interviewed because my mom and aunt both recently had colon cancer, but it’s usually quite “normal” to have cancer after menopause so Lynch Syndrome is not likely.

  9. Gorgeous shadow blend.. the combo is pretty and soft. Those pink lips are very complimentary against your skin!

  10. She’ll be a survivor! That is so sweet of you! Pink locks look great :)

  11. Probably my fave post of yours. Firstly, I love the cause, that you shared the story with me. Secondly, I wish I could do as much with my hair as you do with yours, it looks gorgeous and thirdly, the make-up is so soft and sweet, which gives the entire post an additional touch of cuteness!

    • with me WTF – I mean with us, omg awkward ego moment

      • LOL that just means it felt so personal ;) … xo

  12. She’s blessed to have a beautiful friend like you there for her!

  13. I am so sorry for your lovely friend’s hardships. Life is so precious, and it is incredibly too easy to take being healthy for granted. :( I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. May she have a speedy recovery, and may you find solace in these hard times <3

  14. I’m so sorry to hear this :( my thoughts are with you and your friend <3

  20. Hi Everyone! …..Yep, this is Pink…. Don’t I have the most amazing best friend ever? I LOVE Nymphette!. I’m the luckiest girl to have her in my life. I want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. And thank you so much for helping my little Nymphette during this nightmare as well. My surgery was a success. I’m healing and getting stronger everyday. I couldn’t have made it this far without all of you!!!

My first Chemo appointment is on Tuesday. I have a long ways to go, but I’m going to win this battle! Please continue to keep my best friend and I in your prayers. I love you all….

ps: Love you so much Nymphette! XOXO

    • LOVE YOU TO PIECES!!!!!!! You’re nothing short of amazing…. You inspire so many people with your strength and perseverance. AND you’re still smiling.

  21. Prayers and a good support system is working for you! Glad to hear you’re doing well.

Living your life while on chemo is.possible. My Dr., who I worked for at the time also had breast cancer. She did a lumpectomy followed by chemo and worked everyday that we were open. Plus she was on-call for the hospital.

You will continue to find strength even when you think you can’t possibly have any left. Nymphette and all your friends and family will see you through this.

Will continue to keep y’all in my prayers.

  22. Thank you honey for making a stand for breast cancer. I lost my great grandmother to breast cancer when I was 10 and this year I have faced a battle of my own with pre-cancerous cells on my cervix. I just recently had surgery to remove the cell before I hit the next level. I have to saythank you for your support in one of the causes that is close to my heart. You are giving me ideas of what to do for my hair this month to support the Lupus foundation and people like me who have lupus. Thanks again Nymphette.

    • My heart goes out to you and your loved ones. Thank you for keeping me inspired with comments like these.

  23. Beautiful post <3
