Time For SEXY, VAMPY Lips!!!
One thing I love about the fall (even though it’s still 80 degrees where I am), is the rich, deep lip colors I get to rock. I hadn’t really started wearing dark lipsticks until Halloween weekend when I wore this look.
It reminded me how much I missed wearing these deep, dark colors. Plums, violets and all other shades of purple are really “in” this season so I wanted to swatch some lipsticks for you guys. My lips were completely RAW when I finished swatching but I really do prefer lip swatches to swatches on the skin.
I’m going to start with the lightest of the bunch which is MAC Riveting. Riveting is a very interesting color and probably not everybody’s cup of tea. It is taupey, grey with purple touches to it. Riveting came out with the Riveting Collection and is a Glaze finish so it isn’t the most opaque lipstick but surprisingly is pretty pigmented.
Up The Amp is actually one of my go to lipsticks all the time. I wear it quite a bit and would consider it one of my top 5′s. It is an Amplified finish which is by far my favorite MAC finish. I almost always get asked what lipstick this is when I wear it whether it is online or in person.
Since this is a “vampy lipstick” post, I thought I would vamp it up a little by layering MAC Black Knight over it to deepen it out. Black Knight is a Cremesheen finish so sheer enough to layer over lots of different shades.
Lavish is the first Victoria’s Secret lipstick I have ever tried and I actually really liked it. It is a Matte Cream Lipstick and applies wonderfully. It is very opaque and pigmented. Lavish is a berry toned lipstick and applies a lot prettier than it looks in the tube.
Ok so I added MAC Show Orchid in this bunch and I know it doesn’t match the “vampy” look but I wanted to experiment with a MAC Gloss in Blue and thought it would look great over Show Orchid. Show Orchid is another one of my favorites and also an Amplified finish. It is a bright fuschia with a slight blue sheen to it.
AND this is Show Orchid with the Blue Creme Brilliance Gloss over it…
Smashbox Eden is also a very opaque, moisturizing lipstick that applied very nicely. It is a very pretty plummy, mauve color. The only thing I didn’t like is the distinct “lipstick” smell.
MAC Rebel is an amazing lipstick. It is a little hard to define because it has so many shades to it but I would say it was a pinky, berry color. It even seems red at times. You can apply it lightly for a sheer wash or apply it full strength like I did here. It does stain your lips pretty much instantly but I must say it is a pretty berry stain that I don’t mind at all. I think this is a great starter color for somebody who doesn’t want to go too dark but still wants that vampy look.
I decided to do more experimenting and layered Black Knight over it. You can see it deepened it out nicely.
Vampire’s Kiss is my first Manic Panic lipstick and I was quite happy with it. I also have Deadly Night which is a purple lipstick but I could not get that one to apply evenly and I was too tired to try hard so I axed it from the post. Vampire’s Kiss is a red that applies lighter & brighter than it appears to be.
I had to layer Black Knight over Vampire’s Kiss too. It’s almost blood red now.
MAC Faultlessly F/W is an uber deep blackened berry with definite cool tones. It is also an Amplified finish so it is a full finish opaque lipstick.
I added MAC Funtabulous Dazzleglass (one of my favorite glosses) over Faultlessly and loved the effect it gave. It kind of “tones it down” and adds some pretty pink and blue shimmer to it.
MAC Night Violet paired with Funtabulous was one of my favorite lipstick combinations last winter and fall. It released with Style Black and is a Mattene finish, a finish that I wish MAC would make permanent. Night Violet is more of a wine color than a berry and is also very opaque.
And now with Funtabulous over it…
Last but not least (although my lips were happy it was the last) is MAC Black Knight which you saw a couple times in this post. This also released with the Style Black Collection. I actually prefer Black Knight as a layering color than a stand alone because of how sheer it is. It is also quite glossy so it might work better if my lips were fully lined black. It does take some work to get an even application but it can be done.
And this is me after scrubbing lip off all afternoon…
Enough lip spam… What is your favorite sexy fall lipstick?
